Day 02

OPTIONAL MOUNTAIN FLIGHT/ SIGHTSEEING TOUR

One of the must-see landmarks of Nepal is, of course, the highest peak in the world – Mount Everest. An awe-stricken silence comes close to matching the experience of a mountain flight. For one hour, you'll fly over the Eastern Himalayan Ranges of Nepal where some of the highest peaks in the world including Mt. Everest lie for a surreal feeling as you come face to face with the world's tallest and most enigmatic of Mountains.

Even those visitors who like the rigors of a trek won't miss the opportunity to "conquer" the mountains in one stunning swoop.

After breakfast at the hotel commence the sightseeing tour of Kathmandu city, Swayambhunath and Patan city.

Kathmandu city: Kasthamandap, the source of the name Kathmandu means 'made from the timber of a single tree'. Also known as Kantipur, the capital Kathmandu is the hub of Nepal's art and culture. It is a place for rest, relaxation and easy-day sightseeing of historic and artistic temples and monuments. Kathmandu Durbar Square with its arrays of temples, Seto Machhindranath and the ancient palace of the former Nepali Royals enriches your experience of the centuries old civilisation.

Swayambhunath stupa: Said to be around 2000 years old, this Buddhist Stupa sits atop a hill. The main stupa is composed of a solid hemisphere of brick and earth supporting a lofty conical spire crowned by a pinnacle of Copper gilt. Painted on the four sided base of the spire are the all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. The hill of Swayambhunath is a mosaic of small Chaityas and Pagoda temples. You'll get a scenic view of Kathmandu city from there.

Patan city: Located about 5 km south of Kathmandu, Patan is one of 3 royal cities in the valley. A destination for connoisseurs of fine arts, Patan is filled with wood and stone carvings, metal statues, ornate architecture, including dozens of Buddhist and Hindu temples, and over 1200 monuments.

Patan is believed to have been built in the third century B.C. by the Kirat dynasty later expanded and enriched by the Licchavi and the Malla rulers in the medieval period. Patan Durbar Square, like its counterpart in Kathmandu, is an enchanting mélange of palace buildings, artistic courtyards and graceful pagoda temples. The former Royal palace complex is the centre of Patan's religious and social life, and houses a beautiful museum. One remarkable monument here is 16th century temples dedicated to the Hindu go Krishna, built entirely of stone.

Overnight at Hotel.

Meals: Breakfast.

Day 03

DRIVE TO CHITWAN (189km/4-5hrs)

After breakfast at the hotel drive to Chitwan [189km/5-6 hours under normal road conditioned].

For a country known for its beautiful mountains, the gigantic flat lands of Terai that stretches throughout the southern part of Nepal; provide a wholly different experience section on the Terai. A visit to Nepal remains incomplete without seeing the beauty of the Terai.

The Royal Chitwan National Park, established in 1973, provides a great wildlife experience with its rich flora and fauna. The wildlife and the landscape are not as breathtaking as those found in Africa but still, the experience will stand out.

Chitwan is only 150m above the sea level. The place gets steamy from March-June, with peak temperatures reaching 43°C in the shade. Short grass makes Feb-May the best game-viewing season, but the autumn months are gorgeous, with Himalayan views, and in winter (December-January), Chitwan is pleasantly warmed compared to Kathmandu. The monsoon season (July-August) is intense, with pounding rain, swollen rivers, and luxuriant vegetation. While the rain isn't constant, the humidity is all pervasive.

Check In and Resort.

After lunch elephant safari...

ELEPHANT SAFARI: Seated high on the back of an elephant, gain a unique viewpoint of the Chitwan jungle. As an experienced mahout tracks animals through the dense jungle growth as you sit back on a howdah, you can imagine yourself being a Rajah or Rani going on a shooting trip (with cameras of course!) in the days of yore. An elephant safari allows you to go places that would be impossible to get to by foot or Jeep and get up close to the wild animals of the jungle that are normally wary, but at home with a fellow creature of the jungle

Overnight at Resort.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 04

JUNGLE ACTIVITIES

After breakfast at the hotel commence the jungle activities.

BIRD WATCHING: Chitwan is an ornithologist's delight and a must for any serious twitchier, as more than 450 species of exotic birds such as the Oriental Pied Hornbill, Paradise Flycatcher, and Lesser Adjutant Stork congregate at this biological hotspot of Asia. Our experienced guides will take you to select spots ideal for birding, where you can observe a breathtaking diversity of these beautiful feathered creatures.

CANOEING: Let your mind wander and relax as you float on a serene trip down the Rapti River in a traditional dugout canoe. Spot crocodiles and other reptiles sunning themselves on the riverbanks, or admire the graceful lines of Ibises and other waterfowl as you travel silently and peacefully down the river. This activity is available October to mid-March only, when the water level in the Rapti is neither too low nor too high.

NATURE WALK: Take an exciting and invigorating walk through the lush sub-tropical jungles of Chitwan. Our trained naturalists take you to prime spots to view deer, rhinos, sloth bears and other wildlife. They will also give you interesting information about the various plants and animals of the jungle throughout your walk.

ELEPHANT BRIEFING: Learn more about this gentle giant during our daily elephant briefing. Our expert naturalists will inform you of various facts about the life and habits of the wild and domestic pachyderms, enlighten you as to the differences between the African and Asian elephants, and other interesting titbits. You can also request to learn how to ride one of these magnificent beasts during the briefing.

ELEPHANT BREEDING CENTER: Chitwan National Park has a renowned elephant breeding camp. It is among the very few elephant-breeding center around the world. You can enjoy seeing the newly born baby elephant and knowing about their fertility technique.

THARU DANCE: A melodious tribal dance performed by men and women with rhyme or drums and the clashing of sticks embodies and projects how to keep away the rhino and other wild animals from the human habitat and their farming land. You can enjoy your evening after dinner and watch the Tharu Stick Dance. We will arrange dance for your enjoyment adjacent to our Restaurant.

Overnight at Resort.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

Day 05

DRIVE BACK TO KATHMANDU & CONTINUE TO NAGARKOT

Following breakfast, drive back to Kathmandu which takes approximately 4-5 hours of drive through a picturesque Nepalese countryside. Once you reach Kathmandu, continue drive to Nagarkot.

NAGARKOT: Nagarkot is a village located about 32 kilometres east of Kathmandu on the north-eastern rim at an elevation close to 6,800 feet above sea level. Nagarkot is famous as one of the most scenic spots in the region, renowned for its sunrise and sunset views of the Himalayas. Visitors often travel to Nagarkot from Kathmandu to spend the night so that they can be there for the breathtaking sunrise view. It also offers an excellent view of the Indrawati river valley to the east. With a panoramic view of the Valley, it is described by visitors as a place whose beauty endures year round. If luck favours, you can even spot Mount Everest out with its snow-topped peaks on a very clear day from an observation tower at the very top of the village's hills.

Lunch at local restaurant en-route to Kathmandu.

Overnight at Hotel.

Meals: Breakfast.

Day 06

HIKE TO CHANGUNARAYAN / DRIVE TO KATHMANDU

Nagarkot has become famous as one of the best spots to view Mount Everest as well as other snow-topped peaks of the Himalayan range of eastern Nepal. It also offers an excellent view of the Indrawati river valley to the east. With an elevation of 2,195 meters, Nagarkot also offers a panoramic view of the Valley and is described by visitors as a place whose beauty endures year round.

After breakfast at the Hotel start hike to Changunarayan...

The Nagarkot – CHANGUNARAYAN hike is a brilliant walk in the outskirt of Kathmandu Valley. It is amazing to see how the villages along the trail still exhibits countryside lifestyle of Nepal even though it is so close from the city. The best of all is the Himalaya in the backdrop of all these natural settings. Nagarkot at the altitude of 2,100m is the famous hill station in the suburb of Kathmandu Valley. It is 35km away from the central Kathmandu.

The hiking trail from Nagarkot gradually descends through the terraced fields to the 'Tamang Village.' Even though the village is not far from the road access and the city, it retains its typical lifestyle. The thatched hoses, painted with ocher are built by locally found stones hand-hewn by local craftsmen. Houses are normally 3 storied with kitchen in the ground floor, bedroom in the second and store on the top. A courtyard in front adjoining a shed for animals. The garden next to the house supply seasonal vegetables and fruits. Spring brings color to the village with off springs of goats and other animals as well as colorful blossoms everywhere. A scene of local wine making is pretty common throughout the year. Wine is integral part of their celebrations. 'Tamang' are one of the ethnic group who migrated to the hills of Nepal from Tibet before Buddhism went to Tibet. So their practices are animistic and shamanistic mixed with Hinduism and Buddhism now a day.

The first part of the hiking is a cultural encounter while the second part is more natural as the trail follows the ridge with deciduous forest. The ridge is perched between sweeping valleys of Shaku towards north and Bhaktapur towards south. The Himalayas appear undisturbed. The walking is easy with gradual downhill and fairly levelled path. It will take about 4 hours to reach Changunarayan and drive back to Kathmandu.

Packed lunch from the hotel.

Overnight at Hotel.

Meals: Breakfast.

Day 07

FINAL DEPARTURE
