For mountain bikers looking for a peaceful ride, the road leading from Bhaktapur to Dhulikhel, a hill resort 32km east of Kathmandu, is simply terrific. The highway hardly sees any traffic and the view is magnificent. Dhulikhel can also be approached from Banepa, 4km east of Dhulikhel, and Nala, 4km northwest of Banepa. Further hiking to Panauti, three hours south of Dhulikhel, is possible. A day’s walk to Namobuddha is also a lot of fun.
It is a panoramic thrill flying into Kathmandu on a clear day. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks sprawling down below you are almost ecstatic, beginning a whole chain of memorable experiences that stay with you for a long, long time. A representative and driver from Yeti Holidays will meet you at the airport and escort you to your designated hotel. The representative will help you check into hotel. Today our days start with up and down before reaching the Buddhist pilgrimage site of Namobuddha. According to legend, it was here that the Buddha, in a previous incarnation, gave his flesh to a hungry tigress as an offering. A stone statue marks the site; there is also an active monastery here. Leaving this hilltop, we plunge into the lush fields below, continuing on to the ancient village of Panauti, where the Buddha lived as a prince prior to his offering to the tigress. Tourists rarely visit this special village truly lost in time. It's Indresera Mahadev Temples the oldest surviving dated temple in Nepal believed to have been constructed in 1294. We follow a picturesque river on a mix of tarmac and dirt roads back to Dhulikhel.
