Trip Overview

Whilst keeping the weight of your equipment to a minimum, bear in mind it is better to have an item of clothing and not use it than to be cold!

N.B.: Below is just a checklist, we are not asking you to bring everything on this list, much will depend on personal preference and the climate of the country you are travelling to.

We recommend using the layering principle and recommend that you always carry a warm windproof/waterproof top when cycling. Good quality cycling shorts, with a padded insert, are a prerequisite for comfortable riding.

Riding Kit

  • Cycling helmet (mandatory).
  • Buff or similar.
  • Biking glasses.
  • Stiff soled cycling shoes / SPD shoes.
  • Base layer: Thermal top (x2) long or short sleeved depending on climate.
  • Mid Layers: Cycling top - long or short sleeved depending on climate.
  • Long sleeved lightweight fleece top.
  • Windproof cycling gilet.
  • Outer Layer: Lightweight waterproof breathable biking jacket.
  • Padded cycling shorts (x2).
  • Baggy over shorts or trousers (for propriety).
  • Cycling tights or tracksters.
  • Biking gloves - long or short fingered depending on climate.

Daypack and Contents

  • A cycling daypack (e.g. Camelbak) with a minimum of a 2 litre water bladder.
  • Basic first aid kit.
  • Inner tube(s) and Puncture repair kit.
  • Multitool and tyre levers.
  • Pump.
  • Sun cream.
  • Camera.
  • Head torch.
  • Sandals - for river crossings.
  • Chamois cream (e.g. Assos / Ozone).

Off Bike Kit

  • Lightweight trekking boots / robust training shoes.
  • Socks.
  • Light weight 'trekking style' trousers.
  • Underwear.
  • T-shirts.
  • Warm Hat.
  • Fleece top.
  • Sleeping bag.
  • Thermarest.
  • Toiletries (including anti-bacterial handwash) & Small towel.
  • Small padlock & spare keys (to lock kit bag).
  • Washing powder - for hand washing clothes.
  • Spare laces.
  • Insect repellent.
  • Swimwear.
  • 4 large plastic bags (for keeping items dry in KE kitbag).

Your Bike and Spares

Your Bike must be at least a mid level Mountain Bike e.g. Trek 6500, Specialized Rockhopper or similar. Front suspension is essential. Your bike should be thoroughly serviced, in perfect working order and be cleaned before your trip.

Please see the specific kit list for your trip for recommendations re tyres and a full spares list. Please note that if your bike is fitted with hydraulic brakes you must bring a service and a bleed kit suitable for your model of brakes with you, along with any other bike-specific spares which may be required.

Road Biking Checklist

A similar (but not exactly the same) list of items is appropriate for our road biking adventures.

  • Cycling tights or track sters.
  • Biking gloves - long or short fingered depending on climate.

Daypack and Contents

  • You will need to carry a small amount of clothing and misc. items with you. Some people choose to use a small bar or saddlebag, others a cycling specific daypack.  Whatever you choose to use make sure you give it a trial run before your trip.
  • A cycling daypack (e.g., camelbak) with a minimum of a 2 litre water bladder Or, if using a bar or saddle bag - 2 x 750ml water bottles and cages.
  • Basic first aid kit
  • Inner tube(s) and Puncture repair kit.
  • Multitool and tyre levers.
  • Pump.

  • Camera and mobile phone.
  • Head torch.
  • Chamois cream (e.g., Assos/Ozone).

Your Bike and Spares.

Your bike must be either a road or a touring bike and should be fitted with a compact or a triple chainset and a wide ratio cassette. If you are in any doubt about the suitability of your bike, please contact Yeti Holidays office. Your bike should be thoroughly serviced, in perfect working order and be cleaned before your trip.
